Day 01: Cusco / Mollepata / Soraypampa.
Early in the morning we pick you up from your hotel and transfer you in a private bus to Mollepata. It is a city of images and traditions such as Iscuchaca, Ancahuasi and Limatambo, as well as highland plateaus and landscapes with magnificent views of the snow-capped mountains that belong to the Vilcabamba mountain range. The bus ride will take 3.00 hours and then the walk is 6 hours. The trail climbs from Mollepata to the Marqhok’asa pass through grasslands, farmland, and then descends to the camp through tall bush towards Soraypampa (3,750 masl / 12,303 ft).
Day 02: Soraypampa to Colpapampa.
Early in the morning, you will leave Soraypampa and continue up the beautiful valley walking just below the majestic snow-capped mountain called Salkantay (6,271 masl / 20,574 feet) after 1 hour and half of the walk will become steep switchbacks by some time after we get the pass called Salkantay Pass (4 600 masl / 15 091 ft) from where you will be rewarded with magnificent views. The trail descends through an old moraine passing through large grasslands to the Huayroqmachay campsite (4,000 masl / 13,123 feet). This camp is subject to change according to the criteria of the guide and the evolution of the group.
Day 03: Colpapampa to Lucmabamba.
Wake up to beautiful mountain scenery and good morning tea. Continue north to the lush jungle through different ecosystems observing birds such as hummingbirds, trash, finches, healers, sparrows, guans, parrots, etc. It will be a long day descending into the cloud forest where people live taking advantage of nature. You will pass great waterfalls. At the end of the day we will see passion fruit fields. The walk will take approximately 9 hours; the campsite is located in the community called “La Playa” (2,400 masl / 7,874 feet).
Day 04: Lucmabamba to Aguas Calientes.
Leaving the beach, the walk continues through coffee, banana and tropical fruit plantations. Then the trail goes up to Patallacta from where it descends to Hidroelectrica (1 800 masl / 5 905 feet) and continues to Aguas Calientes, where we will camp just below the Inca Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, this afternoon you can go bathe in the natural hot springs, a great place to relax after this arduous hike.
Day 05: Aguas Calientes / Machu Picchu / Cusco.
Early in the morning, we take a bus to Machu Picchu with our expert guide to explore this enigmatic Inca treasure all day. In the afternoon, we take the train that will return us to Cusco.
